Spot light- Selena Kimsey

Meet our Spot Light Gal
Selena Kimsey
Why we picked Selena:
We found that Selena had a fun style and I personally loved... how she cut and layered her pattern papers! She has a very refreshing style, that invites color. Great job Selena!

Selena's Styles & Techniques
I am mainly a simple scrapbooker with a slight flair of freestyle and eclectic. I love trying new things. Depending on my mood I can be simple one minute and eclectic the next. I am always up for a good challenge.

Hey Heidi,

I have done all kinds of planting this weekend and still have more to go. My mom gave me some plants and flowers she was dividing up(B/C she has way too many) and so I've become a gardener! I actually love it. I always love a hobby where I can get my hands dirty! Hope you enjoy...Jessi

Hi Heidi,
I saw your going green challenge on the blog and thought I would send a few pictures I took today. On top of just planting my pansy's and parsley, we just raised a bunch of painted lady butterflies and released them today. Of course they loved all the flowers and I captures a few pictures of them on the blossoms.

Thanks girls for sharing these beautiful photos!
HAPPY EARTH DAY EVERYONE!

Monogrammed child's magnets- by Grace Tolman

By Grace Tolman

When you mention Earth day, the first thing that pops into my head is recycling, so I decided to alter some old refrigerator magnets.
I made these so I can display my children's artwork proudly. Since both my children have the same initial, I went with a pink color scheme for my daughter and a blue color scheme for my son, to tell the difference.
Materials used:*
all from GCD studiosPattern papers- (pink) Eye Candy line; (blue) Canta linechipboard shapes- Ravishing redsLetter stickers- Glitter black and turquoiseStar ribbon- Planes and trainsOthers- Magnets
For the Pink Magnet:
-Place the initial onto your choice of chipboard shape.
-Cut pattern paper into about an inch strip.
-Take off the adhesive part of the chipboard shape and adhere the pattern paper strip around the shape, in my case it's the circle, folding as you go to create the pleats.
-Take a scrap cardstock about the same size of the chipboard shape and sandwich the pattern paper pleats between the chipboard and cardstock.
-Adhere to the magnet.
-Embellish more if desired.
For the blue magnet
-Cut a circle from pattern paper, big enough to cover the magnet
-Adhere the desired letter onto your chipboard shape.
-Adhere a strip of ribbon, with edges cut in an angle, over the bottom part of the circle paper.
-Place the monogrammed chipboard over the pattern paper and ribbon.
-Glue the magnet on the back of the circle.-Embellish more if desired.
This is a simple and crafty idea, to help out Mother Nature!

Head over to your local plant store
Pick out a plant or two
and plant it :)

This is a simple challenge that will help beautify our earth.

At your local plant store, you should be able to find a few flowers under $2. It's a great deal.

Feel free to share photos with me at hsonboul@gcdstudios.com and I'll share the photos here (of our gcd friends going green!).
Have a happy weekend.

Earth Day+ Winner

GCD is going green... to celebrate Earth Day. Starting today through April 22 (Earth Day), our new DT will be sharing some fun new ideas. All the ideas will welcome and help invite Mother Nature, into our lives a little more. So, share the news! I've created this little photo tag to bring awareness to the up coming holiday.

This lovely layout was made by: Lynn Ghahary
I love that Lynn thought to scrapbook her garden. I myself, find great joy in gardening and this layout makes me want to take a trip to The Home Depot, so I can pick up some spring flowers to plant.
Lynn placed our GCD pattern papers on this recycle paper. What a great idea! I also love this cute little tree and that each circle is a different color.
For me, a layout isn't finished without a title and I love how Lynn allowed this little flower... to take the place of the "o".
Just in case you'd like to scrap this layout, here is a sketch to go with it.

It's Spotlight Time- Rita Barakat

This was an easy choice! I decided that Rita Barakat should be our very first spotlight gal.

I don't know if you remember, but Rita won the Caribbean Blues contest a while ago. She then turned the stuff she was given, into this fun and beautiful mini album!

Take a moment to look at this beautiful work. I really enjoyed how she used the letter Chipboards.

A little about Rita

Bio:

I have been married to my wonderful hubby for 18 years. I am a SAHM of five beautiful children. Scrapbooking is my passion. I am always thinking about ideas for layouts and stories to journal. I have three cameras stashed in several places so I am never without one! When you have 5 kids you learn to be prepared!
And here are three more beautiful layouts made by Rita :)
I love this one. What great action photos!
I love that she added touches of green to this.

Thanks Rita for all your hard work!

Easter Tags

I had 5 siblings growing up and that means... 6 Easter baskets were at the table. Our bunny would write our names on a piece of paper and tape it to the basket. Now that I'm older and I help 'our' Easter bunny, I love to specialize the tags.

Step 1) Place a letter sticker on a piece of paper, cut it out and add foam tap to make it 3D on the circle tag.

Step 2) I stuck this chip board flower on craft paper and cut it out with my craft knife (All of our chip board has adhesive on the back).

Step 3) Take your hole punch and punch a hole, for your ribbon

Step 4) add the circle and flower tags together, using more foam tape. Then tie on your tag to the basket.
This project took 5 minutes to make and it's the perfect touch... to finish the look of the basket!

Happy Easter everyone. I'll see you back here on Monday.

~H
