Back to our normal posting :)

Hey my scrappy friends!

Over this past few weeks I've been getting all caught up on email/posts/stuff coming off of CHA/ and the DT call going on. If you haven't applied yet and want to, just a reminder that the open call ends MARCH 5th.

Today I have some delightful projects to share with you from Melissa. I hope you enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey, everyone!! It's Melissa here! I'm excited to be able to show the layouts that were made for the CHA Winter show this past January! I was assigned to do three layouts from the "Fun House", "Scandia Jul", and the "Material Girls" collections. Each and every one of them was so much fun to work with :-)

This first layout is using the "Fun House" collection by Tina Higgins. This collection has a lot of fun circus themed papers that can be used in various ways! It is also very easy to create some embellishments directly from the patterned paper! I used the Chip Art tool to emboss the word "BOY"; I used the appropriate letter for each chipboard letter and stamped it all over. A subtle way to add some texture to plain ole' chipboard!

This layout was completed using the "Material Girls" collection by Heather Tozzi. I adored the colors in this line! That blue is one of my favorite shades! And the reds & pinks & blues just compliment each other beautifully! I created the small paper flower by folding a strip of paper accordian style and then embossed a small chipboard circle with a heart and flower design and placed it in the center of the "flower". A nice pop of dimension and color!

I also used my stash of border punches to create the "stacked" look under the photo :-)

This last layout was done using the "Scandia Jul" collection by Rob & Bob! This is a super fun Christmas themed collection with a lot of non-traditional colors! I LOVE the pops of pinks and blues in these papers!

To create this layout, I cut out strips of various papers from the collection and weaved them together and placed them down on the blue card stock. Then, I took three chipboard hearts (there is a 12 x 12 sheet of chipboard embellishments that come with this paper!) and embossed them with my heart stamp using the Chip Art Tool. I layered them down along the bottom of my photo to anchor it.

I can't wait to see what you all create with these fabulous new collections from GCD Studios!!
xoxo,
Melissa

Changed rules for Brave Girls Camp

We have talked it over in house and have decided that you can buy the chipart tool anywhere. Showing purchase can be from Local Scrapbook Stores, Archivers, Oriental Trading, Michaels, or pretty much where ever you can find it online and off :)

Like This charming little store online:

And they have a good deal on shipping.
I hope this helps

COME ONE.... COME ALL....2011 DT Call

We are looking for fresh faces and talented girls to fill our 2011 team. We are looking for
  • Motivated team members
  • A clean well presented style of Artsy, Shabby, Simple, Modern, Whimsy and much more
  • Well/clean photography skills
  • You've got to love the product! This is super important! We have 9 new beautiful lines from this winter's CHA '10.
  • Bring your personality to the team. We love drama free, fun, and outgoing gals.
  • Ability to work fast, if needed (around show times we might need extra work done and working fast is a plus :)
  • Assignments turned in on time.

Scrapbooking is all about being creative, capturing memories, and having fun! When it comes to our design team, we feel that our members should do just that. "Be Creative, capture memories, and HAVE FUN"!

Spots to fill:

This year, we have 6 returning DT gals and have decided to open 9 spots to make a total of 15th team members. We will be looking for

  • Altered Item Gals
  • Card Gals
  • Layout Gals

This is what you'll need to turn in:

  • A short paragraph about yourself, explaining who you are and "why you want to work with us"
  • 3-4 projects of your best work
  • Resume
  • A link to your gallery and blog
  • List of any teams you are on right now or responsibilities
  • Your contact information

Each month the GCD Gals will be asked to create 3 items from our 10 new collections (one of the projects will need to be a written tutorial).

Please keep in mind that we are reserving 2 spots for "new up & coming crafters". This means that these spots will be "reserved" for unpublished gals (which I will teach them the ropes of the publishing world). We find great joy in new talent! So, even if you feel that you're not ready to submit to a design team calls, here is your chance! We want to see your work!

This year our team will be working side by side with many other companies and fun new partnerships. We have a lot of fun things lined up for our 2011 team.

Learn to FLY

Last weekend at CHA we had projects displayed that were made with Melody Ross' ChipArt tools. We made these two "FLY" canvases using the ChipArt tool and wanted to show how we made it.
1)For the background of each canvas I first took tissue paper and Mod Podged it to the canvases. Make sure that while you are Mod Podging the paper you give it a crinkled texture.
2) Start painting over the tissue in a few shades of blue; darker at the top fading to the lighter colors at the bottom. This gives a nice coloration of the sky.

3) At the very bottom use two shades of green to paint the grass in at the bottom. To get the nice drippy grass effect I took green shimmer mist and sprayed it across the grass area then held it upside down to let it drip a little. I did the same thing in the sky but I used a teal shimmer mist.

4) For the Flowers and butterflies we used the ChipArt tool to deboss the ChipBoard. Then painted and distressed them. After they dried I hot glued them onto the canvases and accented them with some cute pastel buttons.

This camp will be filled with laughter which really soothes the soul!

Of course there will be ChipArt projects as well!.

...and food!
...and of course lots of FUN!

We can't wait for this years Brave Girls Camp and can't wait to see your entries for the Brave Girls Camp Contest!
