Florida Fall

Our technique this month was to use warm tones on our project. I wanted to document a Florida fall which as my journaling states: “...is pretty much non-existent”. I lived in Maryland for a few years and one of my favorite times of the year was when the leaves started to change. Such vibrant hues of oranges, yellows, & reds! So very beautiful. When I moved back down to Florida, I really missed that season change. The only thing that changes much around here is that it gets a tad bit cooler in the mornings and not so hot during the day. As I was thinking about this, I was going through some pictures and found a couple that I took in the fall last year (or it may have been the year before) and thought to myself – we may not have a noticeable season change, but I do have to admit that we have such beautiful scenery all around us here! These shots were taken down near a pier in downtown Pensacola. I converted them into black and white and love how dramatic the shots appear with the color change.

I also want to explain how I created the large “flower” on the layout! I had a lot of fun making this. I cut several strips of paper from three different patterned papers from the “Ella Blue” collection and cut them down into 2”, 2.5”, & 3” strips. I then took my hot glue gun and glue all of them together by bending them in half – but not folding them in half. After gluing all of those together, I was ready to construct my flower. I punched out a 3” circle from scrap paper and starting gluing down all of the green & white strips of paper first on top of the circle. Then I flipped it over and hot glued down all of the brown polka dotted strips. And lastly, I glued down the blue strips. I took a oval chipboard piece and painted it green and the stamped the word “Fall” into it. I adhered small butterfly onto it and glued the chipboard oval on top of the paper flower. An easy embellishment that brought a lot of dimension to the layout.
