layouts that have so many little details and layers

For my technique layout this month, I wanted to talk about layers. My usual style in scrapbooking is a clean, linear approach with very few layers/dimension. However, I really love seeing layouts that have so many little details and layers, you can look at it over and over and see a new little detail you hadn't noticed before. I attempted that this month with this layout featuring my Grandma Sharon as a young girl in the 50's.

I used the Homespun Chic collection by Melody Ross almost exclusively on this layout except for the chipboard letters and the small decorative, silver pin, and of course the spray inks.

The first step I took was to take my cream colored cardstock and trim it down slightly from a 12x12 sheet. I then took some yellow, blue, green, & red sprays and spritzed in opposite corners. I used a star punch to create a quick mask on a scrap piece of paper. I also used the star shapes that I punched out and laid them down and sprayed in the upper left hand corner - when I removed the punched out stars, it left that shape in the corner. I then took a distress ink pad and swiped it down all four sides of the cardstock. I then backed the cream colored cardstock onto a pink cardstock - creating three layers at this point.

I found some patterned papers I wanted to use and for added dimension and texture, I ripped one of the pieces and inked the edges with some alcohol inks. I tucked another piece of paper behind this and I handcut out one of the flowers from the patterned paper. I used several of the border strips and layered then above and below the center piece of paper. I used one of the chipboard tags and placed it at one end and then handcut one of the fashion ladies from the patterned paper and placed it slightly on top of the tag. I used the same picture 4 times, and layered each of those pictures on top of the last. Lastly, the title was placed above and I sprinkled a few other embellishments around: buttons, chipboard sentiments, & butterflies. At the top of the layout, I used a clear embellishment and placed an epoxy sticker on top - this added some more dimension, but also allowed the mist that I had sprayed on earlier to still be seen.

I had a lot of fun branching out from my typical style and trying something different! I hope it inspires you to try something new in your scrap booking as well!
