Surprises!

This month's theme was birthdays! Parties! Surprises! Cake! My husband and I don't have any children to throw parties for; but, this year my husband had his 40th birthday and I couldn't let it come & go without some sort of party! So, I somehow managed to very sneakily throw him a surprise birthday party at one of our favorite restaurants, Red Robin. They have the best burgers and endless steak fries - YUM! It was such a great evening with our family and I was glad to finally have a chance to scrap a few of the pictures taken that evening!

I chose to use very warm, manly colors for this layout. I used some patterned papers from the "Independence" collection and embellishments from the Artsy Urban line. I also broke out the awesome chip art tool and used the uppercase alphas to stamp "SURPRISE" into the chipboard plaque. I painted the chipboard with white gesso and then spritzed some color wash onto it and kind of rubbed that in with a papertowel and then ran a distress ink pad around the edges. I backed it with some white cardstock to make it pop a little against the darker patterned papers.
