Photo Challenge

Being that Fathers Day is on Sunday... I have a fun photo Challenge for you all!
Tomorrow (Sat) and Sunday, take a moment to stop and photograph a simple, but special moment between "daddy" and your kids. I love to take photos when their is some kind of interaction, with each other and not looking at the camera.

Just like this photo of my hubby, teaching Bradley to ride a bike

Or this photo, of my hubby playing with Calvin

And even this sleepy moment. Try moving your camera in different spot, in order to get a whole new look. For this shot I came over their heads/shoulders

How about this photo of Uncle Mike, giving Bradley a little ride in the cul-de-sac?! A photo of your kids interacting with uncles, can also be very special.

And last, a photo of them sitting on Grandpa's or Daddy's leg.

As Scrapbookers, we all know that "great photos... make great pages"! So, make sure you take the time to get a "great photo" this weekend (I'll report back what I get on Monday).

I moved to Colorado when I was 4 years old & with the exception of a few years in California & Arizona, I consider myself a Colorado Native. I am currently living in Denver with my fabulous husband of 10+ years, Nick; our adorable, 3-year old daughter, Maggie & Tula the dog, a new addition.
Shortly after I met my husband, I met an official scrapbook – you know the kind that didn’t have a sticky-back & plastic cover on each page? Over the next 10 years, my style has evolved from the simple Creative Memories circles & rounded corners with Mrs. Grossman’s stickers to funky, vintage, altered & eclectic mixed media. Although I love to create elaborate layouts & books, I continue to have a soft spot for the clean & simple layout! I am currently obsessed with the “mini-album” & altering treasures found at my local dollar or thrift store, but I still love the versatility of a 12x12 layout – you can get so much on there!! LOL!
I scrapbook because I want all of my life’s memories preserved for future generations to enjoy. I scrapbook because I love to sit with other ladies that love what I love; share new ideas & try new techniques. I scrapbook because it’s something creative & we all need creativity in our lives!!

When I saw this little house Rebecca turned in, I was in love and it reminded me of my childhood. As a kid I loved, LOVED Sesame Street and their was a 2-3 min show titled "The Twiddle Bugs" They lived in a milk carton house. Does anyone else remember this??

Random Winner Wednesday + Another Fathers Day Idea

Most men LOVE Sports and most men LOVE to golf. If you know this guy... I've got a perfect idea for a gift. Our dt gal ... Renee made this very sporty gift and it has "golfer" written all over it!

She used pattern paper and lettler stickers, to decorate this water bottle and golf balls set. It's a simple gift like this... that will knock the 'golf socks' off your guys.

A Fathers Day Project / Card Contest info

The sun is finally showing it's self, here in California. Every year (in the month of June), we get weather called "June Gloom" and the sun hides away, behind clouds (in the morning). I think "June Gloom" is almost over! Thank goodness!

First up for the day- Don't forget about our Fathers Day Card Challenge. You have until tonight to enter (you can learn more about it from yesterdays post).

and now... our crafty gal Lynn, has created this super cool project. I hope you enjoy it and it gets your creativity flowing... for Fathers Day!

1. Gather all the materials you will need for this project including: an unfinished wooden photo cube; a knob for the lid of your photo cube (I used an unfinished doll head which was flat on one side); paint (I used Making Memories Scrapbook Paint), foam brushes (not pictured); a good multi-surface craft glue (I used Alene's Original Tacky Glue - not pictured); craft knife (not pictured); sanding block (not pictured); your desired papers (I used the Debonair line from GCD Studios); and any other embellishments you wish to use.

2. Start by sanding all of the visible surfaces to ensure that the wood is smooth for your paint or paper application. Wipe with a clean cloth to remove all debris. Paint those wood surfaces that will not be covered by paper. Apply two coats of paint and let dry fully before continuing.

3. Remove the plastic inserts where your photos will eventually be located. Cut patterned paper into 4.25" squares and glue one at a time to each side of the photo cube. Be sure to work one side at a time as you will need to reach in through the openings on the other sides to cut out the interior of each patterned paper piece. Sand interior edges for a smooth, slightly distressed look.

4. Once all of your sides are covered with paper and edges sanded you may insert your photos and embellish as desired. I also applied twill ribbon as a trim around the edges of my cube for a more finished look - simply cut to size and glue in place.

Being that Fathers Day is coming up on the 21st (Sunday), I thought it would be fun to host a challenge here. It never hurts getting a jump on things... right?!

Hello Everyone. My name is Carissa Peach, which is funny to me, but I was married into it, my poor husband was named James Peach! And he is a Giant ;) . I am a stay at home mom with a fantastic husband and 3 year old daughter who I love to death and is the star of my art. I have been scrapbooking for over 9 years, but really got into it after the birth of my daughter in 2006. I am mostly self taught and then as I honed my skills, strive to teach others this obsession. I have always been a crafter of some kind and dabble in all faucets of art. My love of interior design helps me to create balance, functionality and interest in my art. I love all the papers from GCD Studios and had fun creating inspiring projects with them.

A Crafty Idea

When our DT gal- Renee turned these beautiful flowers in... I thought they would be a perfect post for today! Renee said "I got this pattern from my sister Gina Hanson" and if you remember, Gina, won the card sketch challenge :)... so talent runs in the family!

Anyways, I love how Renee used such bright colors and fun wild pattern papers (to create these flowers). Renee has also provided a step by step. wasn't that so sweet of her?!

Can you just imagine making these for a little girls room, a party, a baby shower or a wedding? Using any paper gives you endless possibilities.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Materials you will need:

2 sheets 12x12 of Pattern Paper
floral tape
(1) thick floral wire for stem
(10) thin floral wires for petals
scraps of paper for flower centers

Using pattern:
Cut 5 small petals - flip over and cut 5 more (make sure you cut 5 opposite of each other as you will sew them on top of each other).
Cut 5 large petals - flip over and cut 5 more (make sure you cut 5 opposite of each other as you will sew them on top of each other).

Step 1.
Take two petals and a piece a the thin floral wire...tape the wire at least 1/2 way up to one side of the petal...lay the other petal on top and stitch together.
Repeat until you have sewn all 10 petals (5 small and 5 large).


Step 2. Making your fringe for the flower center.
Cut a strip of paper either pattern paper or cardstock about 7 inches by 1 inch. Cut small cuts all the way down your strip without cutting through so it looks like a comb.
On another strip 5 inches by 3/4 of an inch do the same thing...then you will roll it up, starting with this smaller strip and then start rolling the larger strip around it.

Step 3. Now its time to start assembling your flower.
With your first petal and your floral tape start wrapping at the base to cover the paper stem once that is completely covered add the next petal and wrap again...once the second petal is there, that's when I added the fringe. It gets a bit tricky here and it will to unroll...add one petal at a time and add the floral tape evenly going up the stem and down the stem adding a new petal each time. Each time you add a new petal you can arrange the petals and place them the way you want them...but be careful because the wire can easily pop through that paper. Once the last petal has been added use the floral wire to cover the entire wire stem.

Kit Club News + Weekend Give Away

A few days ago I was notified by a Color Me Daisy DT gal, Mara, that their June kit was filled with our fun Canta collection and rub-ons.

One thing I love about scrapbooking, is coming up with a fun title for a layout! I love that Jing-Jing title this layout "Rear View". What a fun idea for such cute baby bum photos. I also LOVED how she cut out all the flowers from our pattern paper.

WOOHOO... It's product testing time!

We are so excited to announce our very first product testing gal.

Summer Johnson

Summer did such an amazing job using our products. We sent her everything yellow, orange, and gold in embellishments and she in return made 5 beautiful projects.

One frame, 2 layouts, one mini album and one card.

They all have a fun warm summer theme and are bright with colors. What a great idea to add the chip board to a frame. Talk about being creative! I also loved how she layered the chipboard on this Happy layout.

We also asked Summer to write a review about the products. We wanted her to be truthful, so that GCD can grow! After all, how can we fix issues... if we don't know their there?!

Summer's Review:

Thank you so much for this opportunity! I really enjoyed using all of it - I had the Sunkist Gold products, and the colors were fabulous. I could definitely use them for any project theme. I LOVED the chipboard shapes and letters - there were so many shapes in the package, I was able to make a mini-album and various projects - it went on forever! I loved the chipboard letters as well. One thing I really liked about the glitter letters was how many letters came in one package..and TWO SETS of numbers! Woohoo! I can get so many projects and page titles out of these - they just go on and on. If I did change my mind, though, they didn't come off easily, they would rip and I'd have to find another. I'm one of those put it down, need to change it five times before I commit scrappers. Also, I adored the designs of the rubons, and I had a lot of design plans for them, but I had a really hard time getting them off the packaging. Especially any that contained the red color. The epoxy stickers were awesome - loved all the shapes and I love that I had no trouble putting them down and pulling them up, moving them all over, and now that they're down, they're there for good inside my albums! Love that!

Heidi's Follow up:

I myself have noticed the glitter sticker get a little stuck and this is how I fixed it.

The stickers with the curly font seemed to be the small issue and it's because of the shape curves and swirls. When pulling up the stickers, pull gently. This will help them come up perfectly with out any issues.

I love how Summer used the glitter letter stickers, for this mini albums cover! This album is a mini-mini album. She used the shaped chipboard and added photos with tags to it.

Check out this card she made to look like a tie! HOW COOL and GREAT IDEA!

and what is NOT to LOVE about this layout?! I love the bright yellows with the blues. Look at how cute the title is. Her use of the chip board shows a perfect example on how to use it creatively.

I also couldn't go without noticing this little bug she made from the epoxy stickers... Brilliant!
