Cute ideas for Butterflies and stitching

When I was challenged to do some sewing on a layout, I was a little stumped at first because I am not a seamstress. But I loved the look of a patchwork quilt type background of assorted papers, and thought I would make some fun stitches by hand to accent and connect the paper blocks together this way. The new Bonjour line has such pretty earthy colors and was perfect for this. I added some twine for butterfly antennae and used a shiny mist to create the misted background. I love how the butterflies and flowers in this line are so easy to cut out and use separately as embellishments!

Banners and Roses oh my!

For one of my last 2011 term assignments, I got to pick any collection I wanted to work with and create some projects with texture, and boy, what an easy one! So, first collection that comes to mind? You guessed it, Oh Happy Day! When I was working on these projects, I was totally inspired by the GCD Studios CHA booth - I'll let you guess how on this first one. ;)

LOVED Heidi's banner, and totally had to recreate it on a card. The sewing and bling add a fun touch and some texture to the card. For my second card, I really loved the flowers in the booth, so I went with a flowery feel for this one...

Aqua and Red...Country Charm

GCD Studios latest collection Country Charm includes my all time favorite color combination ever--aqua and red. In a mix of super fun designs and patterns from stars to flowers. I ♥ it! My challenge was to make something focusing on numbers:

When I love an entire collection, I try to incorporate as many of the patterns are possible in one layout. Usually by adding bits and pieces in shapes onto a white background. I made different length strips with rounded corners of Handycraft, both sides of Super Star and the B side of Farm Field Stripe. I also cut a number border from Weekend Fun.

The hexagonal shape was cut from the Vintage Wallpaper sheet, as was the tiny flower in the title. The large popped up flower was cut from Country Bloom:

Hi all! One of the things I loved doing when I paper craft is to mix my scrapbook supplies with items I can find in my home. Today, I am going to show you a fun way to make circles with paper from GCD Studios' Splendor collection , paint and a small glass! You are going to need:

• A small drinking glass (a,votive cup or some other object with a circle ring works well, too!)
• Craft paint
• Patterned paper from GCD Studios (of course!)
• Scratch paper

 Start by squirting some paint on an old tray (or plate) or scratch paper.
 Set the rim of a glass in the paint. Twist the glass to make sure the rim is fully covered with paint.
 You want it to look like this.
 Press the rim onto your patterned paper.
 Be sure to press hard so you get a nice painted circle like this.
 When finished, cut your circle out and use it as a design element on your next paper crafting project! All four of the circles on this card were made with my painted circle technique.
 Rather than cutting them with scissors, I was able to use a circle punch.
The circles here were also created with this technique.
 To give the yellow and blue ones more visual interest, I set a wooden button in the middle of the circles. I then covered the top of each button with additional paper from the Splendor collection.

Hello...Bonjour!

My first assignment with the new season of GCD Studios design team was to use the adorable new Bonjour line of papers.  The color palette just happens to be my daughter's favorite!  So fun and fresh!  Because of her love for these colors, I decided a birthday layout was in order.

For this layout, I went crazy with my diecut machine, the Slice. I cut the banner, the flag, the circles and the arrows. I also cut the word "fun" for the title with the Slice and then cut a circle around where I had cut.  I decided to back the word with brown to give it the greatest amount of pop.

You can see from this photo, I added depth to be banner by adhering one side and then squishing the other side closer before I adhered it to make it ruche up a little. I used an acrylic stamp for the word "birthday". I was able to bend it slightly on a clear mounting block to follow the curve of the banner. I wanted to include her other friends in the layout as well, but wanted to keep the layout uncluttered and on one page.  So I created little flaps with the sticker tabs.

I stitched along the edge of the photo for extra support of the tab and the hinging action. :)  When my daughter saw the layout she was kind of upset her other friends weren't included. Once I showed her the photos flipped to show her other friends, she loved it! I hope you enjoyed today's post and maybe you'll be saying "bonjor" to flipping photos on your pages! A bright and happy color palette

Gina here with you today and I have a fun new project to share with you using the new country charm collection by GCD Studios. She's got style layout: I love the bright color palette and fun patterns in this collection. One of my favorite papers in the collection is the paper country bloom paper. I loved the fun flowers on this paper so I chose to fussy cut one out to use as a page element. After cutting it out, I covered it with clear ultra high embossing powder from WOW embossing powder company. Then adhered to my page with foam squares. Here is a close up of the flower:

I love the glossy shine that it gives it. So fun! What will you be inspired to make with this collection?

Moments that we never want to forget

Every day life passes us by. Sometimes there are moments that we never want to forget like weddings, birthdays, and what not. However, there are little moments every day that are just as important. They may not be at first, but down the line they are just as important as that shot of your child attempting to blow out their first birthday candle. It's these every day moments that I try to capture in my pages. This layout is just that. An every day moment of my girls being silly and just being themselves. It's pictures like these that I tend to treasure the most. For this layout I used various papers from the Sweet Tooth collection. I hand cut some of the flowers from the Sweet Tooth Sour Cherry paper and used them to add a little whimsy to my page.

 Although I've never got to meet my talented friend, Heidi Sonboul in person. I have had some fun phone conversations with her! And from that let me tell you; it's as though she took her personality and wrapped it all up into one amazing scrapbooking collection. It's fun, playful, bright and most of all happy! And Heidi, you had me at chevron! Love that paper so so much! It's a unique mix of patterns and colors that are perfect for an occasion.

Navy hues and the floral patterns...oh so fresh!

The Splendor collection is beautiful! I adore the navy hues and the floral patterns. I thought the patterned papers lent themselves to a Spring theme and used them to scrapbook a photo I took recently while enjoying the Spring weather:

The blossom petals reminded me of the Navy Flora paper, so I based my design on that piece. I added strips of Floral Frame and Woven Chevron, as well as flowers fussy-cut from the Posies paper.

To enhance the blossoms theme, I scattered flowers punched from white cardstock.

If you're looking for a paper line to scrapbook your Spring, Splendor is a simply splendid option!

 

bright colors for a fun layout

I truly love the bold and bright colors.
The blues and greens remind me of my great aunts kitchen. These colors are colors she had in her kitchen back in the day. She had this really huge flower she painted on her wall in this very colors and I loved it then and love this collection now! So fun.
Something about these colors against white just makes them pop, don't they?

Fruit Pizza...Love this!

Today I'm sharing with you a layout that I made with the new Flower Child collection. This collection is chock full of bright colors and patterns - perfect for this particular page. My daughter loves to help me in the kitchen. After a long week at work it's one of the things we do to spend time together on the weekends :)

I thought that the colors in these papers would go perfectly with my photos. For Valentine's day this year, we made fruit pizza instead of the normal cookies or cupcakes. I used blocks of patterned paper in between my photos that I embellished with machine stitching for some added texture.

I wanted to include more than just a few photos on this page, so I printed one at 4x6, one at 3x5 and the other two wallet size. Thanks for stopping by today!

Sweet and Simple with Sweet Tooth

Hello there!  Today I get to share with you a sweet and simple card I made with one of GCD Studios new releases.  Sweet Tooth.  I really enjoy this line so much.  This card just needed to be simple for me, because the bright colors make it pop .  So here it is:

Our Very First Issue of The PaperCut Magazine

After a lot of TLC, The PaperCut is finally done and ready to share. It took us a couple extra days, being that we were perfecting one last thing in the issue. Dress up your layouts

 Hello, it's Jennifer Larson, sharing a technique I used recently to dress up a page with lots of patterned paper bits. The spring here in Minnesota has been so gorgeous, I felt the need to scrap some spring photos. I pulled an unscrapped photo from last year--remember last winter and how welcome spring was?--and paired it with with the lovely Bonjour line. I was inspired by these papers:

The blues and greens are lovely spring colors that I can use on a page about my boys. The colors made me want  to pull out some mists and use them too. First, I set up the layout of the page. I grabbed a template from Pink Paislee to make the background:

Next, I misted over the template in light blue.

I wanted to use two other colors of mist, but only inside the template. To cover the paper above and below the template, I taped some wax paper to it, then misted with green and brown:

Next, I added some patterned paper strips. I also wanted to add patterned paper to the misted circles, so I used the misting template to trace and cut a scrap paper template. I used this scrap paper template to trace and cut out small pieces of patterned paper to glue over some misted spots.

Finally, I added some other shapes and brads just because.
