I'm Canadian and our b-day is July 1st....but a lot of my childhood memories are of July 4th because our farm was very close to the Canada/US border and from our neighbours driveway up on a hill, we could see the 4th of July fireworks from a town in North Dakota. I've always loved your sense of celebration and patriotism...that's something you have Canadians beat in Hands Down. Recently we spent the 4th in Omaha Nebraska with relatives and it is an experience we're hoping to repeat again soon! Love the sense of Unity you have on this lovely day. Happy Birthday USA!

  67. Our 4th is definitely about family, yes, it is a time to respect and honor our history and military, but when it comes down to it, the family time means the most to me. Spending the day with my children and family, making it all about love and honor.
Of course the fireworks are great and the patriotism is on the forefront, but family is what keeps it al together for me.
    Thanks for the chance~

  74. Definitely the get-togethers with family and dear friends. Traditionally, we drive over to a nearby carnival, eat funnel cake & cotton candy while our children go on the rides. At 9:30, we walk to our cars, pull out the lawn chairs & coolers, sit back to watch the grand firework display as we listen to patriotic music from the town's radio station. The oohs & aahs, the in-awe feeling that I get each time -- ONLY IN AMERICA!! Gotta love it!!

  84. The 4th of July is important to our family. We have many members who have served in the armed forces and we take the opportunity before we eat at our big cookout to thank God for those who are on active duty and those who are not with us anymore. We do a lot of talking and remembering and some of our older family members take the opportunity to tell war stories.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I think it's fantastic that Americans take time to reflect on where our country has come from and all that the past and present soldiers have done for us.

  86. As missionaries in Croatia, we don't get to celebrate the 4th of July as we used to. This year, we are in the US (a first in 7 years) and our girls are all finding out for the first time the traditions that go with the holiday. So, the best part for me (at least this year) is sharing traditions with my girls and other family members. And watching them oooh and aaah while watching the fireworks show was a close second.
